We were pleased to host this Churches Together annual event on 6th March. This year the service had been prepared by the Christian women of Nigeria on the theme of “I will give you rest, come” (Matthew 11:28 – 30). We joined a wave of prayer starting in Samoa and ending 46 countries later in American Samoa, all praying with and for the country and people of Nigeria. As ever the service was thought provoking and informative as we heard the struggles of 3 women who were dealing with daily prejudices and burdens of being marginalised as a widow, suffering religious persecution and the burden of insecurity. With music and artefacts from Nigeria and even some Nigerian biscuits we had a flavour of the country. Thank you to everyone who came and participated in the event. £172 was collected for the World Day of Prayer movement.

We were delighted to welcome members of the East Keswick Wildlife Trust into our garden to help us to plant more wild flowers. They also provided us with two nesting boxes, made by one of their members, which we hope will be used by blue tits and robins. We are grateful for their support in helping us to improve and maintain our garden.

It was good to welcome old and new faces to our Carols around the Crib on 18 December. Unfortunately due to the poor weather we had to move the event from around the crib into the church. However it didn’t dampen our spirits and everyone was in good voice. We were pleased to welcome the choir Village Voices who led us in the singing.

It was lovely to welcome Eileen back to lead our Harvest service on 29th September. We were joined by our friends from Collingham Methodist Church. Our donations of items for Wetherby Foodbank of 47.75 kg exceeded last year’s collection by nearly 8 kg. Following the service we enjoyed lunch together. Thank you to everyone for their assistance and participation both before and on the day to help in making it such an enjoyable occasion.

It was with sadness we said farewell to Eileen Clarkson at the end of last month as her role of lay pastor to the Circuit came to an end. We were pleased Eileen and her husband Charlie could join us for a farewell lunch during which we presented them with gifts as small tokens of our appreciation and gratitude for all they have done during Eileen’s tenure. Eileen will be greatly missed having helped and supported our church in its aims and objectives as well as so many of us personally. The outdoor crib scene designed and made by Charlie for us 4 years ago provides a lasting memory for us and the whole village each Christmas. We will be pleased to welcome Eileen back for our Harvest Festival service on 28 September and to our Fun and Fruit Trail afternoon on 18 October.
